Trail Running is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States with runners taking to the trails of varying difficulties and distances to connect with nature and the environment, while also building strength and more technical running skills.

What should you do on National Trail Running Day? National Trail Running Day is a day for runners to come together and celebrate the sport of Trail Running. Everyone should participate and anyone can plan an official event for National Trail Running Day. Some of the events planned are trail races, group trail runs, or trail clean-ups.

Is Trail Running for you?

Yes. Everyone should try Trail Running. If you enjoy the wilderness, hiking, or backpacking then Trail Running is for you. Even if you are not a huge fan of jogging you should still try Trail Running. The experience is much different from road running where the focus revolves around your speed and distance while Trail Running emphasizes the activity of running. For people who are already runners, Trail Running can be a transformative experience, opening up a totally different feeling from the same activity. For more serious runners, often trail running is not a part of a core conditioning but rather is done to build a good base. Trail Running is great remedial training that can be done in the off-season to give runners a variety of running conditions. Cross-country runners especially benefit from running on trails during the off season because it mimics some of the same running techniques as cross-country running. Trail Racing is another great way to enjoy Trail Running with other enthusiast while also being competitive. In order to be proficient at Trail Racing runners must practice on trails but any runner can enjoy Trail Running.
